“Astana Musical” is the first state musical theatre in Kazakhstan and Central Asia. Musical theatre is a theatrical genre that combines music, drama, acrobatics, and choreography. The theatre was established in 2016. Its artists are laureates of national and international competitions. The Artistic Director of the theatre is renowned director Yeslyam Nurtazin. In 2017, as part of the “Rukhani Zhangyru” programme, the “Astana Musical” State Theatre embarked on a major international tour across five major European cities: Paris, Berlin, Vienna, Brussels, and Moscow. In 2018, as part of the “Modern Kazakh Culture in the Global World” project, the theatre participated in the Avignon Festival. “Astana Musical” offers audiences a diverse and original repertoire, including the productions “Astana – Menin Mahabbatym”, “Dostar Serti”, the fairy tale “Er Tostik”, the poetry performances “Zhyrlaydy Zhurek” and “Men Sagyndym...”, the ethno-folklore musical “Kyz Zhibek”, Ray Cooney’s renowned comedy “No. 13”, the world classics “Romeo and Juliet” and “Notre Dame de Paris” in the Kazakh language, the experimental musical performance “Shanyrak”, “The Magic Choir-Concert”, the drama “ENT Tapsyrmaymyn”, the dance performance “COVID-19”, and the musical “Roza Baglanova”. In 2023, the “Astana Musical” State Theatre, with its musical “Roza Baglanova”, won two awards at the prestigious Daegu International Musical Festival in South Korea. The young and promising creative ensemble won the Best Foreign Musical award, while theatre actress Zarina Makina was recognized as the winner in the Best Actress category.
