About a instrument
NARKOBYZ is an ancient stringed bowed musical instrument of the Kazakh people. They make the instrument from a single piece of birch, juniper. It consists of three parts: head, neck, body. A leather membrane is pulled onto the bottom and a stand is inserted. Strings are from the horsehair. The instrument has extensive capabilities, multifaceted sound, perfectly conveys the sounds of nature. Legend about the kobyz: There is a legend about how Korkut invented the kobyz: “Korkut has been smart since childhood. He played all the instruments of that time. But he was not satisfied with this and wanted to build another instrument that could transmit the voice of people and animals, natural phenomena. After much thought, he cut a piece of pine, gave it some form. But he did not know what to do next. And so the days went by. Once asleep, Korkut had a dream. In a dream an angel came to him. He gave him advice: “Korkut, your kobyz's size is like the tibia of a 6-year-old atan (camel). Now it lacks a body made of atan's skin, a stand for strings from a goat's horn, strings from the tail of a five-year-old stallion. Waking up, Korkut did just that. Everyone listened to the sound of this instrument with bated breath – nature, birds, animals and the wind”.
